We’re delighted to be bringing Giant Sand’s Howe Gelb to St Michael’s!
As singer-songwriter, acclaimed producer, musician and mastermind of Giant Sand, Howe Gelb has been making music since 1980, responsible for indefinable and influential recordings ranging from punk and roots-rock to psych, jazz, gospel and even traditional Spanish music. Since his early lo-fi groundbreaking recordings Gelb has remained one of the most inventive and unique American musicians of the last 3 decades.

‘His work has never acknowledged any borders that might theoretically exist between mariachi waltzes, psychedelic guitar rock, uptown piano jazz, or dusty improvised C&W’ – Pitchfork
Tour support comes from Erika Wennerstrom, founder of Austin’s Heartless Bastards.
This will be one of the first public concerts in St Michael’s since its recent re-opening, having been closed since 2004. The Roman Catholic church was founded in 1859 and became the heart of the Little Italy Community in Ancoats.
