We’re delighted to be working with Mates of State for the first time – plus special guest Shilpa Ray!
Mates of State have been cranking out just-under-the-radar pop hits for 15 years. The collaborative duo, Kori and Jason, have been known to produce a bigger sound than most full piece rock bands.
Originating during their university years in Lawrence, KS, relocating and really jump-starting their career in San Francisco, CA and now living in the NYC suburbs of CT, their sound has evolved from chaotic 1970s organ and drums to complex synth and keyboard instrumentations.
They’ve gone from simple melodies, unconventional song structures and abrupt tempo changes to beautifully crafted pop songs to rival any current mainstream pop. Their unique, defining features are the male/female vocals harmonies and strong sense of melodies.
Mates of State have toured the world several times over, winning the hearts of all in attendance. The Rumperbutts, a feature-length film they starred in and scored, is being released worldwide this summer. They also return with a new anthemic album, You’re Going to Make It.
Special guest is Shilpa Ray. Shilpa Ray is, through no fault of her own, one of our unsung great artists. Having made her bones with the gothic Sturm und Drang of Beat The Devil and moving forward to the blues erosion of ‘… and The Happy Hookers’, Shilpa Ray has been, armed only with an incomparable voice and harmonium haunted by the ghosts of dead lovers, perpetually crying in the wind, hoisting both middle fingers in the general direction of god. It’s not a life a wise man would choose. Shilpa Ray kicks against the pricks but the pricks keep coming.
