We’re delighted to be promoting Ezra Furman’s biggest Manchester show to date!

With the release of his much-anticipated new album Perpetual Motion People on 6 July, and following his show-stopping performance on Later with Jools Holland in May, Ezra Furman has announced news of more UK and Ireland headline shows in October and November to follow his summer festival appearances at Latitude, Port Eliot and Standon Calling. Ezra’s new single Lousy Connection, meanwhile, recently premiered on Stereogum.

Perpetual Motion People was recorded with Furman’s current band The Boyfriends – comprising Jorgen Jorgensen (bass), Ben Joseph (keyboards, guitar), Sam Durkes (drums) and saxophonist Tim Sandusky – at studio Ballistico in Furman’s home city of Chicago (though he’s currently based in San Francisco). The album kicks off with Restless Year, about which Consequence Of Sound described as, ‘a ball of energy, bouncing around genre borders with glee. There’s the rebellion of ’90s indie rock, a string of sunshine-y ’80s pop, and the snarl of ’70s punk.’

Furman is as a true original, tapping avenues of music that most others have left alone, or wouldn’t have the guts to emulate. ‘There’s rarely been a scene that I’ve wanted to be part of,’ he admits. ‘I’m just not hearing other stuff out there that I wish existed, so that’s my goal, to do it myself.’

Perpetual Motion People was released on 6 July on Bella Union.

Tour support comes from The Big Moon. Formerly called The Moon, the London four-piece play Secret Garden Party, Tramlines and Festival No 6 this summer, following the release of the singles Eureka Moment and Sucker.
