We’re delighted to be working with Cambridgeshire’s Fuzzy Lights.
Fuzzy Lights were formed in 2004, and it has been a long journey since the release of their near-instrumental debut album, A Distant Voice.
In 2010 they released their second album, Twin Feathers, weaving together elements of pastoral psych-folk and noise-rock. The album received critical acclaim, being named ‘Underground Album of the Month’ in Mojo and receiving four-star reviews in Uncut and Artrocker. Several tracks from the record featured across BBC 6Music shows, and the same year they played at the End of The Road Festival.
In 2011, they retreated to write new songs, and the fruits of these sessions were later recorded live to tape at a Limehouse studio. Released in February 2013, Rule of Twelfths is an album that carries with it the ghosts of pop songs past and is their most direct statement yet.
‘Outstanding. A beguiling, brilliant second LP. Like the Dirty Three meeting Low with a hint of Sweet Billy Pilgrim. If they were American, the buzz would be huge already’ – Uncut
Support comes from Hey! Manchester favourites Walton Hesse. Burst into being from the sunny imagination of songwriter Matt Grayson, Walton Hesse are a lapsed congregation of optimistic outcasts standing on the shoulders of Big Star and Wilco, peering into the shaft of a 13th Floor Elevator. Frontier-facing and burdened by a twisted nostalgia this alt-country psych creation blend the melodious harmonies of Matt and Nicola Crosby haunted by the ghostly union of Gram and Emmylou to bring Arizona desert plains to the streets of Manchester.
Opening the show will be Cambridge’s Hladowski & Joynes. The duo of singer Stephanie Hladowski and guitarist C Joynes got together in 2011. Following a collaborative Late Junction Session broadcast on BBC Radio 3, they recorded The Wild Wild Berry (Bo’Weavil Recordings), an album of traditional English songs and tunes arranged from field recordings selected from the library at Cecil Sharp House. Both performers have played extensively across the UK and Europe, sharing bills with performers including Alasdair Roberts, A Hawk And A Hacksaw, Jack Rose, Josephine Foster, James Blackshaw and Sir Richard Bishop.
