When: 7.30pm on Saturday 27 October 2012
Where: Soup Kitchen, 31-33 Spear Street, Manchester M1 1DF
We’re excited to be bringing the excellent Public Service Broadcasting to Soup Kitchen.
Public Service Broadcasting are a London-based duo whose main ingredients are: 1) J. Willgoose, Esq. on guitars, banjos, other stringed instruments, samplings, electronic things; 2) Wrigglesworth on drums, pianos and other electronic things.
Taking samples from old public information films, archive footage and propaganda material, they teach the lessons of the past through the music of the future.
Following their debut EP in August 2010 (the originally titled ‘EP One’), PSB released ROYGBIV to the masses in March 2012. The single won the Rebel Playlist on 6music and was on the receiving end of a 5-star review in Artrocker magazine.
The band released The War Room EP on 28 May 2012, with lead track Spitfire again taking off on the airwaves, gaining widespread recognition on 6music and a New Blood Feature in Artrocker April 2012.
Live transmissions at venues and events as diverse as Village Underground, Koko, Leefest, 229, the Edinburgh Fringe and Tooting Market have seen the band’s unique AV show build up quite the reputation as they seek to inform, educate and entertain audiences around the nation – and, hopefully, world.
‘This duo are bringing the past up to date whilst sounding like they belong in 2012’ – Music Week
‘How can you not love a band with names like that… we’re all for it here’ – Lauren Laverne
Support comes from Cyril Snear, who lurk within the margins of Manchester’s music scene. In part creative offspring from the city’s last great lost band Oceansize and the ensuring leftfield that blossomed around them, as well as taking in wider-reaching free-form and IDM influences, politicised forthcoming album The Riot Of Colour is indicative of a greater sense of direction for the four-piece and looks set to finally bring them in from the periphery.
