We’re excited to be working with Simeon Walker for the first time!
Leeds-based pianist and composer Simeon Walker has quickly emerged as a leading light in the burgeoning Modern Classical scene, following the release of Mono and Winnow, his two albums to date. In recent years, Simeon has regularly performed and toured across the UK and Europe; supported a variety of artists including S. Carey, LYR, Sebastian Plano, Loscil, Erland Cooper and Taz Modi; and performed notable live sets at Latitude and Timber festivals (UK), Q3Ambientfest (DE), FAN Festival (PT).
His music receives regular broadcasts on BBC Radio 3 shows including Unclassified and Night Tracks, alongside BBC 6 Music, KEXP and Soho Radio, with his music boasting streaming figures in excess of 15 million times across platforms. He also founded and continues to curate Brudenell Piano Sessions; an intimate and varied live music series highlighting the diverse music being composed and performed on the piano, hosted at Leeds’ iconic Brudenell Social Club.
Simeon’s most recent EP release represents a return to the calm, introspective piano-based instrumentals that first thrust him into the limelight; inviting the listener to find stillness, beauty and meaning as much in the spaces between the notes as the notes themselves, as musical stories are woven with each tender, intimate performance.
This show coincides with international Piano Day 2022, on Tuesday 29 March. Simeon contributes to the day’s official compilation alongside artists including Olafur Arnalds, Chilly Gonzales, Poppy Ackroyd, Lambert and Nils Frahm.
Simeon is accompanied for this performance by regular collaborator Josh Semans, weaving the ethereal textures and sounds of the ondes Martenot – a fascinating, early-electronic instrument – around the piano.
Special guest is Kadonnut Manner. Kadonnut Manner is finally doing his fifth European tour from March to early June 2022. The long overdue tour is in support of his album Finnish Primitive Guitar Vol.3 (Jukan Musiikki / Hillotehdas / Creative Class War CD/LP/DL), which came out in August 2020, and will hopefully help with the withdrawal symptoms from playing live shows and travelling.
Kadonnut Manner’s hypnotic, raw and cinematic instrumental music invokes vivid imagery in the heads of those who hear it faster than any chemical would. The music draws its influences from John Fahey school of American Primitive Guitar playing, country blues of Skip James and Mississippi John Hurt and Finnish folk music – but it doesn’t require any prior knowledge from the listener, only an open mind. Expect lots of open tunings, driving rhythms and a deep journey into unseen worlds created by just one steel stringed acoustic guitar.
Please note: this show takes place in Gullivers’ Lounge, an intimate room at the rear of the ground floor.
