Hey! Manchester is running a stage at this year’s Sounds From The Other City – the one-day music festival that celebrates the diversity of Greater Manchester’s ‘other city’. The 12-hour aural orgy is expanding again in 2011, with Hey! Manchester based in a brand new SFTOC venue: the ornate 350-seat Peel Hall, situated in the Victorian-era, terracotta-covered Peel Building:

For this stage we’ve been putting together a suitably grand line-up: New York singer-songwriter Willy Mason is a real coup for us and for Sounds From The Other City, while perennial Hey! Manchester favourite Darren Hayman – he who fronted Hefner and, more famously, performed at the Godlee Observatory last year – was an obvious pick. Darren’s regular collaborators, the ever-excellent the Wave Pictures make a welcome return to Manchester, having previously performed as Daniel Johnston’s band in 2009. And how could we not invite back David Thomas Broughton, former Manchester dweller and current North Korea resident? We’ll have one or two more to add to what’s shaping up to be our best Sounds From The Other City line-up yet. Rounding off the stage is one of our favourite local singer-songwriters, Jo Rose!
