We’re delighted to be working with Douga again – with special guests Chew Magna plus Sam McLoughlin and David Chatton Barker!

Douga are a band who defy description. The name stems from a childhood nickname. This starting point informs the exploration, expression and freedom they set out to communicate within their music. A heart beat of sorts. They combine influences ranging from folk to 70s German experimentalists, electronic leanings and classic songwriting, creating a sound that’s uniquely their own. Their music has been featured on BBC 6 Music and Radio 3, and they have recently played dates supporting Sweet Baboo on tour.

Their latest album, Hidden Tapes and the Golden Tide, was released in December, and critics have praised it for its scope and ambition. Expect vocal harmonies, guitars, beats, drones and bleeps.

‘Combining elements of Americana, psychedelia and an unmistakable tinge of Manchester grit, Douga go to great lengths to get their sound just right’ – For Folk’s Sake

‘Throughout Hidden Tapes & the Golden Tide Douga consistently reinvent themselves’ – God is in the TV

‘Their imaginative arrangements and interesting bits of instrumentation maintain interest throughout. Good stuff’ – The Crack

Special guests are Chew Magna – featuring members of Songs for Walter, Young British Artists and Butcher the Bar. Their debut single, Learning How To Swim, was released in September 2017.

Opening the show are Sam McLoughlin and David Chatton Barker, who perform as an improvised propulsive duo, exploring rural conjurations and shamanic invocations using an arsenal of handmade percussion and stringed instruments, dictaphones, feedback and projections. Away from the duo, Sam released Flaming Liar as Samandtheplants in May last year, while David is co-founder of the Folklore Tapes label.

Buy tickets now. Tickets are available from the bar (no booking fee), Piccadilly Records, Vinyl Exchange, WeGotTickets.comTicketline.co.uk and on 0871 220 0260.
