We’re delighted to be returning to the Kings Arms – host of the first ever Hey! Manchester show – with Salford’s own Vinny Peculiar!

Vinny Peculiar at the Kings Arms, Salford

Vinny Peculiar is a singer-songwriter and poet; he’s released a number of critically acclaimed albums, toured with the Killers, British Sea Power and Edwyn Collins, created SOUP ART with the KLF’s Bill Drummond, and his various bands have included ex-members of the Smiths, the Fall, Aztec Camera and Oasis. Vinny’s kitchen sink confessional stye of writing is often described as quintessentially English: ‘homespun tunesmithery in the Robyn Hitchcock/Martin Newell vain –wry nostalgia, witty wordplay,’ said Rolling Stone. Here’s another recent review from Edinburgh Festival:

‘With his flat cap, florid blouse and fidgety nervous energy pitched somewhere between Andy Warhol and Jarvis Cocker, there’s an anarchic elegance to Vinny Peculiar which is both at once both thrilling and faintly unsettling. Storming through a set of oblique, tortured punk poetry, he wins over an initially skeptical crowd with his animated delivery and taut, frenetic pop hooks. Channeling all that eccentricity and barbed wit into something strangely compelling Vinny Peculiar is the sort of unlikely, heroic pop star they just don’t seem to make anymore’ *****

New 70’s glam-inspired album Other People Like Me is released in September on Shadrack & Duxbury Records.

Support comes in the form of Rochdale’s the Buzzaldrins – ‘puppet rave space technicians, sitting under the North star, whistling as the world goes by’ – and Manchester’s own the Reveres.

This show takes place at The Kings Arms, one of our favourite small venues in town. It’s a great independent theatre and arts hub, which also happens to be one of the best real ale pubs around, and is just a five-minute walk from Deansgate, just down Bridge Street.

Tickets are available from the bar, Common (both no booking fee), Piccadilly Records, Vinyl Exchange, Seetickets.comWeGotTickets.com, Ticketline.co.uk, Ticketweb.co.uk and on 0871 220 0260.
