We’re excited to be welcoming Gabriel Minnikin back to Manchester – this time with Cassie Josephine, plus support from Jo Rose!

Gabriel-Minnikin-Cassie-Josephine-Eagle-Inn-Salford

Gabriel Minnikin and Cassie Josephine found each other on the Music Nova Scotia stage when on the same bill. Gabriel had eyes for Cassie and ears too. A musical romance budded into a collaboration of country and indie folk where stories, harmonies, and flirting guitars abound.

Before that fateful night, Gabriel was a founding member of acclaimed country outfit The Guthries and then a world travelling solo artist touring with the likes of First Aid Kit, Justin Townes Earle, The Handsome Family, Caitlin Rose, and his marvellous talent of a sister, Ruth Minnikin. Gabriel recorded his last solo album, Parakeets with Parasols, in Manchester, UK in 2012 and soon headed back to East Coast Canada where he met Cassie just releasing her first EP, Cutlery ’N’ Cryin. These two songwriters share the stage and their sound, but, as in any healthy relationship, they keep their independence; they are each other’s band but they sing and write their own songs, often opening for the other within their single set.

With thoughtful, poetic lyrics, alluring harmonies and melodies that both haunt and toe tap, Gabriel Minnikin and Cassie Josephine have a grand time makin’ music together and sharing it with friends, family, and music lovers alike. G+C are currently writing and recording their first album together in Halifax, NS – a vinyl split that makes them both giddy to think about, and bringing their tunes to venues across the East Coast.

Opening the show is Jo Rose, who has been touring with his first set release, Spurs, for the past year. The songs from this record, bearing the influence of acts such as Neil Young, Leonard Cohen, Townes Van Zandt, Songs: Ohia and Smog have been played extensively around Europe at shows supporting Thea Gilmore and First Aid Kit.
